The Cape Cod Salties offers and supports the following memorial scholarships honoring past members.


Terry C. Tessein Memorial Scholarship

 

Throughout his life, Terry was extremely passionate about the outdoors and conservation. He loved all aspects of the outdoors and also loved sharing and teaching other about it. He was delighted to see people with their own passion for the outdoors and wanted to cultivate that passion in others. He wanted people to not only love and appreciate the outdoors, but also to be good stewards of it.

 

The purpose of this scholarship is help the future stewards of the outdoors. Terry would have loved to see new generations of those who care about the outdoors the way he did be able to follow their passions.

 

To be eligible for this scholarship, the recipient must be:

  • A graduating senior at a Cape Cod high school and;
  • Either:
    • Pursuing a college degree in any outdoor-related discipline (including, but not limited to Environmental Science, Marine Biology, Wildlife Management); or
    • Intending to pursue a career in Conservation Law Enforcement by attending a school that offers either a major or a concentration in Conservation Law Enforcement. Additionally, those seeking to participate in a Seasonal Law Enforcement Training Program may be eligible.

 

This $1,000 scholarship will be awarded each year by the Cape Cod Salties Fishing Club to one eligible individual as mentioned above. To apply for this scholarship, applicants must submit an essay detailing their passion for the outdoors and why he or she intends to pursue a degree or career as mentioned above. Essays should be no more than 2 typed pages.

Stanley Daggett Memorial Scholarship

 

Stan Daggett was a former DY Math Teacher and Math Department Head who inspired many students in the use and pursuit of mathematics during their lives. He also was a charter member of the Cape Cod Salties Sportfishing Club where he shared his love and great knowledge of the sport, the fish and the Cape Cod environment with members and children for five decades.

 

This scholarship is coordinated by the Guidance Department and selected by the Math Department of the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School.

Al Brewster Memorial Scholarship

 

Al Brewster loved to see new generations of those who care about the outdoors the way he did be able to follow their passions. Al was a woodcarver, fly tyer and avid fisherman.

 

The purpose of this scholarship is to help the future stewards of the outdoors.

 

To be eligible for this scholarship, the recipient must be:

  • A graduating senior at a Cape Cod high school, or a graduating senior who is a family member of a Cape Cod Salties:
  • Either:
    • Pursuing a college degree in any outdoor-related discipline (including, but not limited to Environmental Science, Marine Biology, Wildlife Management); or
    • Intending to pursue a career in Conservation Law Enforcement by attending a school that offers either a major or a concentration in Conservation Law Enforcement. Additionally, those seeking to participate in a Seasonal Law Enforcement Training Program may be eligible.

Congratulations to Ryan Christensen, recipient of the 2023 Al Brewster Scholarship.
Ryan will be studying at Northeastern University in the Fall of 2023.

Ryan graduated from Barnstable High School in 2023 and was involved with the Environmental Science & Technology program there. He was the 2023 Class President, Captain of the Mock Trial Team, a member of the Math Team, and plays guitar in the BHS Jazz Band and the Drama Club Orchestra Pit.

In 2022 Ryan was participated in the Cape Cod Climate Change Coalition Ambassadors Program, and completed an internship with the Barnstable Clean Water Coalition where he assisted with water quality sampling and wildlife monitoring.

At Northeastern University Ryan plans to study Environmental Engineering and Environmental Science.
