The Newsletter
Changes are on the way!
Stay tuned while we tinker with the design to bring you a completely online, new, Newsletter! The new design will mean no more PDF files to download and print out, no more reminder emails for Richard to have to send because you will be able to subscribe and have the newsletter arrive in your email, and more timely news as it will allow for additions, subtractions, and corrections FAST. I hope to have the NEW design up and running for the November edition. In the meantime, below is the President's Message and a couple of reminders. For info on the derby, speakers, and classifieds, please see last month's newsletter.
Thanks for your patience!

October 2013 President’s Message
September showed a little increase in striper movement. I saw a 60 pounder weighed in at Powderhorn and saw some nice bass caught in the canal. Our September speaker, Chris Parisi, talked about canal fishing and the movement south. This month we’ll have the Fish Supper on Oct. 23. Get your reservations in so you don’t get shut out. On September 7th we had our one-day derby, with a buffet at the Sesuit Harbor Café. Bill Cottle and I acted as weigh-masters, but because of the high winds, we only weighed in two fish and had one catch and release reported. George Ford was first place with the big bass, and Rick Enz was first in the bluefish. Rick Schwartz had a catch and release bluefish. On September 8th I walked in the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk, honoring my sister Maureen and Ruth Sherman, with a great donation from the Cape Cod Salties. Ken Whiting has been doing some tuna fishing on the Helen H and has nine tuna to date. Two were nice yellow fins. Recently on a Helen H trip, his brother in law Saltie Dan Cavicchi got a 53 pound yellow fin and won $420 in the pool. Not bad for his first trip! On September 14, Bruce MacLeod and I went out to Martha Vineyard for the beginning of the MV Derby. Staying at the house with us will also be Salties Don Sicard, Terry Tessein, and Keith Ritchie. Joe Apiscopa and his crew did a great job on the Canal Clean-up. Joe O’Clair, head chef, made a delicious chili that was enjoyed by all! Thanks to both Joes and to all of you that turned out to help us. The Salties set an example of how we can make our environment more enjoyable for both the animals and fish that use it and those of us that view it. Some final notes. I know you all like to wait till the last minute, but so far the turnout for the October supper has been low. Let’s get those reservations in. On a derby update, Don Sicard has two bluefish pins and one for striped bass. Bruce MacLeod weighed in a nice bass before his knee injury. I have weighed in some small bluefish. The Salties team of MacLeod and Creighton is currently in 25th place in the Shore Division. The fishing here has been sporadic, although there have been some nice fish caught from the shore. I hope to see you all at the October supper! A final sad note – we recently lost a great fisherman and woodcarver, Al Brewster. Al did an awful lot of good work for the Cape Cod Salties Sportfishing Club. He will be greatly missed. Thanks, and hook ‘em up! Jack Don't Forget Dinner!
